I wish I could have stayed up all night sewing instead of sleeping. But shortly after midnight, I fell asleep. I wish I could get by on only 5 hours of sleep each night and still be a useful and happy person during the day. But I just can’t do it. I get the opportunity to test out that theory several times a month, and I’m just not always very happy the next day. Especially after a few days of 5 hour nights. So I suppose I will let sleep take priority over getting things done.
I also have a winner to the giveaway from my last post. It was Anna McD from who said “I loved Mr. Rogers kind, gentle spirit. I wish he was still on so my grandbabies could watch him.” I will be sending her a fat quarter bundle of the Isabella fabrics in the periwinkle colorway by Lila Tueller for Free Spirit Fabrics. Congratulations!
I was not surprised to hear that so many remember Mr. Rogers and enjoyed him. I wish there was a similar show on now for young children. Something that was gentle and kind. Of course, there might be a show like that, but I wouldn’t know because I don’t watch broadcast television. Maybe I’m missing out?
I’m sure we all struggle to get things finished and to prioritize to get to the most important things. I know sometimes other people in our lives don’t understand our priorities, either. I often get sidetracked into doing things that are important to other people instead of what is important to me. I’m trying to stop that!
Though I wish someone in the comments had mentioned some super secret time machine they could loan me that would stop time and catch up on a few things! Like getting the perfect newsletter written for all of those new subscribers I’ve gotten! Thank you for entering my giveaway contest!
If you find one of those time machines, be sure to share with me!!
A time machine would be the answer; wouldn’t it…love the bags below too….
I’m learning to say “no” after years of PTA, Girl Scouts, etc. Now it’s my time to QUILT!
Mr Rogers was my daughter’s friend when she was a tot. Now she is in her 40s! She took him and all he said very seriously. Too bad there is not someone to fill his slippers and cardigan!
I can identify with you…I am always busy working on a gift for someone, a swap for someone else, etc. Meanwhile, my husband still hasn’t gotten his quilt 😦 I need to work on that! Thanks for the giveaway with Julie! I wouldn’t have found you otherwise!
What a wonderful giveaway. And I’m so glad you brought up Mr. Rogers. I have such great memories of him.
I have fallen asleep several times as well when trying to get projects done. I wish there was a way to go into non-sleep mode 🙂
I looked through the Mr. Roger’s post and thought, it’s amazing how, until we are asked to articulate it, we don’t really think about things like this when in reality, they should be at the forefront of our minds. thanks for the thoughtful posting! I am now following via Google reader and look forward to more!
I too wish I could just be up all the time, think of the thinks I could get done if I did not need sleep. I really like Mr. Rogers. 😦
I wish I were one of those people who only need 4-5 hrs of sleep. Must be nice! There is never enough time in the day for me!
Life lessons: Life is short. Kids grow up too quickly. Spend time with your family, because that is something you can never get back.
I love Mr. Roger’s idea about time and priorities! There is just never enough time to sew! Thank you for sponsoring the Jaybird giveaway!
I guess we need the sleep to be more productive the next day – I’m the same way. Congrats to the winner!
Congratulations to the winner!
And when you’ve got your time machine be sure to share it won’t you?
Gill
My problem is that there are so many things I want to do I can’t decide which one to start.
Mary Lou, that is something I really struggle with, too! When I do have time to get to something, I can’t decide which thing to do!
Sleep is good. Mr Rogers would have approved! Just found your blog and website and I am delighted that I did!
Yes, sleep is good! I’m working in a job that starts at 5 am, so an afternoon nap helps a lot!!
Just came to your blog via Jaybird Quilts, will continue to visit.
I miss Mr. Rodgers. He was such a constant part of my growing up.
Your designs are gorgeous – thanks!
Sleep….I never get enough, either! I have to trade it in if I ever want to get any sewing done!
Beautiful designs. There are never enough hours in the day or days in the week. We just have to keep on keeping on 🙂
I’ve been letting go of perfection where it’s not needed and it’s helped me be a bit less stressed.
I know what you mean… I have 3 quilts to finish by the end of the year, and I have a hard time prioritizing them. When I get overwhelmed, I start working on something else entirely, which makes my time management worse!
I am more of a night owl, so have often stayed up into the wee hours quilting. I get much more done that way!
I wish I could only get by on 4 or 5 hours of sleep too – I’d get so much more done! I could do it in college no problem, but now if I don’t get at least 7 hours, I’m miserable and cranky and useless!
I loved Mr. Rogers as a kind. I still catch repeats on pbs from time-to-time with my daughter (she’s nearly 2). I can sympathize with the not-having-enough-time thing ;D My daughter takes up so much of it, that when I get some time to sew; I’m all over the place! I don’t think I’ve finished a half the things I’ve started over the last month, LOL!
My favorite thing about Mr. Rogers was watching how crayons would get made. That was my very most favorite episode, but I wouldn’t miss the show ever when I was a kid. What a great legacy he left us.
Sleep 5 hours per night is good for few days, for longer time it is bad idea 🙂 I know it from my self 🙂 I found your blog very interesting and I will become and I’ll be watching you 😀
Looking forward to following your blog — Julie sent me! Congrats on making the decision to make your own projects a priority. Maybe writing in “studio time” on your calendar would be helpful.
I am so pleased to have discovered your blog. I have added you to my Reader.
Good luck with the time management. It’s probably the most common challenge for us quilters!
Julie sent me – I am a new follower! Love the Parisville Line!
I’m a new follower too. I totally relate to your sleep post – in fact, when people ask how I find the time to do crafty things I usually reply with “insomnia”!
Thank you for the Jaybird giveaway. I’m a new quilter and am having so much fun reading all of these wonderful blogs – my “favorites” list on my computer is humongous – but it is all so inspiring – and great to read! I love seeing all of the beautiful fabrics and what you talented people can do with them!!!
I cried when Mr. Rogers died. I felt like I’d lost a best friend from childhood.
All those fabrics are just gorgeous in your post. I am very fond of anything blue or purple and these definitely caught my eye.
I have had those days where I just want to stay up sewing myself but when hubby heads to bed I shut things down since he’s going to wake me up with his alarm at 3:30am when he has to get up for work. I’ve learned to just go to bed or I’m worthless the next day if I stay up later.
You are just like me. I’m always wishing that I could live on 4 hours of sleep a night. My girls are getting older, so I’m starting to say “no” to more and more volunteer projects. And I’m resolving to stitch at least 1/2 hour a day.
Yes, I think sleep is over-rated. So many quilts, sew little time. Love the fabrics. Wishing I could just touch them.
Glad to find a new blog and thanks for the great giveaway.
So much to do. So little time. I too would love to get by on less sleep!
Sleep? What’s that? Visiting here from Jaybird Quilts. I am with you. Sure wish there’s more time to get all the things I would like done.
I’m loving your new shop! I have many fond memories of Mr. Rogers from growing up as well. Him & his sweater. Lol…
Did someone mention sleep (ears pricked up)??? I’m a solid 9 hours a night gal and get to be a real grouch without it. Plus the 2 hour afternoon nap I get to lose a lot of the day 😦 I have CFS – that’s my excuse!
I’m visiting from Jaybird Quilts too and thank you very much for the generous giveaway.
Found you from JayBird Quilts. So sad I miss the Lila Tueller giveaway. That is some fabulous fabric. I also need the time machine–or maybe just a way to stop time so I can sleep while the kids remain motionless for a few hours.
I’m with you, I can’t function on so little sleep. Its nappy time for you! What a gorgeous line of fabrics you gave away. Congrats to the winner.
I was just talking to my husband about! Night time is the ONLY time I get to sew; Sewing makes me happy, but lack of sleep makes me unhappy… Can’t Win! I guess I’ll catch up when my kids are grown and out of the house (so like, when they’re 30).
Thanks for the lovely post! Nighttime seems to be the only time to sew!
OMG I can relate to that. I have stayed up all night sewing when I was just on a roll. It is so peaceful when the fam is asleep.
I love the color combinations of the fabric you have shown. I never seem to get the colors so beautifully together.
I love Lila’s new fabric. My kids used to watch Mr.Rogers…sigh.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I would like to find that super secret time machine too. 😉
I was very relieved to read I’m not the only one who falls asleep doing projects. Of course the fact that I leave them to last moment doesn’t help either.
It was nice to remember Mr. Rogers. My oldest son watched him everyday and Mr. Rogers was a kind gentleman.
I also am here from Jaybird Quilts and you have a great blog. Thank you for the generous giveaway. A very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Julie from Jaybird Quilts sent me over to see you. Wish that had been before your giveaway for those fabulous fabrics! We didn’t get Mr. Rogers as my house but we did have Mr. Dress Up, the Friendly Giant and Chez Helene. They were all shows that should still be around.
Ahh yes, Mr. Rodgers….he was awesome. Congratulations to the winner of the gorgeous fabric.
Love this new line! 🙂
I have often said I wish I could sew and quilt instead of sleep. Sometimes I am able to stay awake and get some sewing done late in the night but not often. You have a great blog.
Jennifer
popping in to say hi from jaybird. thanks for the giveaway!
Congrats Anna! I wish I could sew all night too but can’t function properly the next day without at least 6-7 hrs sleep! I’ve arrived at your blog from Jaybird! Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
That blue is mesmerising and I just love the name ‘Periwinkle’ -I just keep saying it out loud!!!
I simply cannot stay up that late at night sewing. I’m a daytime sewer. Thanks for the lovely sponsored giveaway at Jaybird.
Quilting while sleepy is a dangerous thing! Silly mistakes are made!
jaybird invited me to visit your blog…it is great!! love it…
Love this fabric! All-nighters are way out of my league now that I am older, but it was nothing for me to do one in college!
Julie from Jaybird Quilts sent me over. Love the fabrics!
This time of the year Red Bull is my friend…… a little sleep but a lot of quilting.
I loved watching Mr Rogers with my kids. He was always so soft spoken but had strong messages for children.
Great memories!
SheilaC
I can totally relate to your comment about only wanting to have to sleep for 5 hours. I think of all the quilting I could get done but my eyes end up crossing as bed time looms..
Aw well!!
Well – you’ll want to shoot me! I regularly sleep 5 hours a night and have more than enough energy to get me through the day. Genes! I typed up a list of UFOs – over 85 – but it has helped me to decide what I REALLY want to finish and what I’ll put on the back burner and what I’m giving to my guild for the UFO raffle!! By the way – I LOVE the fabric bundle you gave away!!
Thank you!
This is a really belated thank you for the wonderful service I recieved when I ordered some Innocent Crush from you. I guess I din’t realize you had a blog or I would have commented and thank you a long time ago.
I just wanted to say thanks and so glad to see you have great new patterns and the wonderful Parisville in.
Angie
I came from Jaybird Quilts… I wish I could sew instead of sleep, too. I think there’s a science fiction story about a new race of humans that doesn’t ever have to sleep and how it creates all this conflict because they’re more productive–wish I could be one of them, though.
This is my first visit to your site…came here via Jaybird Quilts. I enjoyed your blog.
Oh i wish i wont sleep because right now i dont have time for crafts in my awake time, until dec 13th.
At this time of year, I get a little sleep deprived by staying up late to work on my Christmas projects. Then at work I get dozie after lunch, drink much coffee, which primes me for my evening of sewing! In January, I’m starting a project for me.
Referred here by Jaybird Quilts. I can’t believe I missed out on a giveaway and commenting on Mr. Rogers! What an amazing guy!
I, too, sometimes feel like sleep is a waste of time – think how much we could get done without it! But without it I am a basket case.
I would also stay up all night quilting if I could stay awake!
I find myself, thinking the same thing, not enough hours in the day, but we need our sleep. That and too many distractions during the day;)
Debbie
Sent over by Julie – I spend a lot of time reading blogs about sewing and not enough time sewing! I should be sleeping right now!
Just hopped over from Jaybird Quilts. I love my sleep too. I am lucky enough to get to sleep in on my off work days and weekends.
hi! i’m coming from julie’s blog and wanted to thank you for sharing so generously!!
have a great week,
julia
I’m visiting from Julie’s! Thanks for sponsoring a wonderful giveaway!
Sleep is a very good thing:)
I’m in my 50’s , so sleep is usually NOT a problem for me ! I wish I could stay up late and sew or read or something ! I remember Mr Rogers ; my daughter is 27 ! AND we didn’t have cable when she was young , but we did have PBS ! I love the blue fabrics ! thanks for sponsoring this giveaway !
I signed up for your blog ; I already have been following / liking you on facebook !
and I’m going to share your giveaway at facebook!
facebook.com/harleywife
I have no problem going to sleep when I lay down, too, and often fall asleep when I’m not ready! Thanks for stopping by and being a Facebook follower, too! Cathy
You can borrow my super secret time machine from mid-Dec through mid-Jan…but you have to come to CT to use it…it’s the older, HUGE model. Really can’t ship it to you. :o( Sorry.
I also have a “shrinking machine” for anyone who misses their kids being little. You can take them back to any age/size (at least, my son always believed I had one…and now I really wish I did!!)
LOVE this site! So glad you paired up with Julie so I could find you!
Mid-Dec to Mid-Jan sounds perfect! I’ve only visited CT once, but it seems like a wonderful place. Can I use the shrinking machine on myself to just shrink me by about 50 pounds?? I think that would be more than worth the cost of a plane ticket!
Thanks for coming over!! Cathy
Gee Cathy….it was really designed to turn back the clock & make kids small again….but….of course….I’ve tried it for weight loss (what woman wouldn’t??) It’s pretty cool….I just keep going back to my 20’s & get a free do-over! hee hee.
Don’t forget to calculate into the costs not just the plane ticket, but a new wardrobe too…. losing 50 pounds is cause for a celebration and a shopping trip…don’t you think?
You must have SO MUCH FUN selecting the fabrics for your shop! Let me know if you need a buyer 🙂 Will work for fabric plus expenses *grin*!!
Congrats on your new shop! I’d love to have an online fabric shop, but then I would have to sell the fabric (not keep it)!
Thanks for stopping by! It’s fun to have the shop! Buying the fabrics is really so much fun–I wish I had the means to buy everything I see that I like!!
I too wish I could do with less sleep – so little time so much fabric!!
Wouldn’t it be nice to not need sleep? Think about how much we could get done.
Congrats to the winner! Beautiful fabric!!
Julie sent me here, and I’m glad she did. I’ll be adding you tomy Google Reader and will check out your shop. Kathie L in Allentown
Thanks so very much for sponsoring this giveaway!!!! Never have too much fabric. Happy Thanksgiving!
I’m very glad you’ve chosen sleep as a priority–you’ll be healthier and happier during the day. We all learn to prioritize, getting better at it each year. Thanks very much.
God help me, I put aside a whole afetnroon to figure this out.
That is why they call it “burning the midnight oil”. If I can no longer enjoy the short span of interupted nights, due to a baby, I can’t think of a more enjoyable way to enjoy a sleepless night.
If you ever find that time machine, let me know!=) I could really use it. Thanks for the giveaway!
Quilting instead of sleeping, I can relate. Been staying up way too late. Right now though I’m reading blogs instead of sleeping. I’ll probably get up extra early tomorrow to start cooking, and still get to check blogs with my coffee. I subscribed to your blog and newsletter. I like the idea that you are not only carrying some of the “universally” popular stuff. It’s more fun to find new designers and fabrics that are not over-promoted. Thanks!
Hi Cathy – I’m visiting from the Jaybird Blog, but I also am a follower of your blog. Great giveaway you are sponsoring over there!
100th comment! and it’s the periwinkle that caught my attention!
loved mr rogers too – wonderful impact on so many ..
Yes, I love the impact Mr. Rogers had on so many people!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I came from Jaybird’s blog – Thanks for sponsoring a lovely giveaway!
Thanks for the give away, the fabric desings are great
I did stay up all night on Friday night sewing…but it’s always better to just have patience as it just destroys u the next day….
I wish I was good with time management. Funny as many think I am, but this is an area I really struggle with and always looking for tips.

I wish I was one of those people could stay up and get things done as well. But being sleepy and tired usually win out. So I was thinking we just need a freezing time machine.
Thanks for sponsoring the giveaway at Jaybird quilts. I have subscribed to your blog and look forward to spending time with you.
