My name is Cathy A. I have been sewing since I was about 8 years old, I think. My mom hated to sew, so I was pretty much self-taught. I took sewing classes in junior high. In college, I worked in the costume shop for the theater. I learned to use a serger for the first time there. It was a fun place to work and to be around the wonderful costumes. I also worked in a fabric store during college–Fabricland, which is no longer around in the US. Anyhow, I’ve always liked to sew and did a lot of embroidery, particularly when I was in junior high school. It’s been inspiring to find the online sewing and quilting community and see how the craft is thriving–even among young people.
I have three beautiful sons who take up most of my time. The oldest is turning 13 very soon. It’s hard to believe he’s nearly 5′ 9”!! I have a 9 year old–he has autism and is non-verbal. He has extremely good balance and is quite a handsome guy. I also have a 2 1/2 year old who is adorable and has the cute blond curls that are on the header picture above. He loves to help me with everything I do, and has recently started looking at fabric catalogs with me quite a bit!
I also like to knit. I have lots of yarn, and particularly love the hand dyed yarn that some of my online friends make. I’ve even dyed some yarn, and it’s so much fun! It takes me a long time to finish projects. Especially a sweater for myself. I’m working on one now, but I think it will be next spring before it’s finished–and that’s only if I make it a priority!
So that’s a bit about me. I hope to share some information about sewing, quilting, knitting and life in general. And I hope to meet new people here and to learn from my readers–assuming that someday, I’ll have readers!!
Thanks!
Cathy

My dad got my mom a sewing machine for Christmas when I was about 5, I think. She wasn’t thrilled, but at least my sister and I learned to sew eventually!
