Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

May 22, 2011 by Cathy A.

It’s giveaway day, but I’ve got a hurt back. So my post is going to be short and sweet.

I’ve got a charm pack of Lily & Will II and 2 yards of coordinating fabric. The coordinating fabrics will be one yard of Bunny Hill Blue Moda Bella Solids and then a choice of a yellow and brown print or aqua and cream print. It’s enough to make up a little baby quilt top & probably the backing, too. I think this fabric line is adorable, and I love that it’s gender neutral!

To enter, simply tell me what you would do if you were certain you wouldn’t fail. For me, the answer is that I would open an actual brick & mortar fabric and yarn shop with a wonderful coffee shop attached. There would be a wonderful space for classes and casual sewing and knitting for customers. It would be everyone’s favorite crafty hangout!

Check back for more giveaways in the upcoming weeks. I’m slowly sorting out what I have for giveaways from Quilt Market last week, so there will be more to giveaway! Sorry, but this is only open to US residents. Please accept my apologies that I didn’t extend this to international entries. Giveaway will be open through May 25th.

Comments are closed and a winner will be announced in the next post. Thanks!

If I knew I couldn’t fail, I’d do two things I’ve been considering doing anyway but may fail at ;)
1.) Write a book about sewing dress-up clothes and accessories
2.) Start a program talking to college girls about Natural Family Planning because I think that way too many people dismiss it as not a viable option simply because they’ve never had an opportunity to hear about the science behind it and the research supporting it’s efficacy!

  45. on May 23, 2011 at 10:17 am Marcia W.

  232. on May 24, 2011 at 3:48 pm Heidi

I would start my own little clothing shop for children with all my etsy stuff and stuff my friends make too.
I hope your back is feeling better!
    Thanks for the chance.

  233. on May 24, 2011 at 3:48 pm Ashley Golden

I would buy a top of the line Gammilll long arm and start a quilting business. I’m a nurse and I’d continue to do that VERY part time.

  234. on May 24, 2011 at 3:55 pm Dorian

I, too, dream of a real quilt store…I love to bake, so would always have on hand fresh cookies and cinnamon rolls. A place to sit and read the newest mag. with coffee, or a place for the husband to sit and wait…sigh~ Thanks for a chance at winning a great prize.

  235. on May 24, 2011 at 4:07 pm Stacy

I would say make a quilt, b/c I really have wanted too but just haven’t tackled it yet…Not that big of a deal, but one of the things I’d like to achieve. Having my own brick & mortar shop would be awesome too! :-) Thanks so much!

  236. on May 24, 2011 at 4:21 pm Jeanne Gwin

I would turn my home and barn into a quilting retreat. One that would have waiting lists to attend. And I would have all of you be my first guests. I would design fantastic pins for the memories and all my retreaters would return every year at the same time for years and years!! I would add barn buildings for classrooms and I would have them all equipped with top of the line sewing machines, irons, quilting machines and only the best teachers, pattern designers, and all of you would be part of it.

I would love to paint. and design fabric. Or open a quilt retreat center. Oh… the possibilities!

  240. on May 24, 2011 at 5:24 pm Pat in Washington

I would open a bookstore – with new books and used books. I already have the requisite Bookstore Cat, Tigger. He LOVES used books and any time I bring a book home from Goodwill or a used book store he sniffs and sniffs and sniffs it. He would be a good Bookstore Cat.

  241. on May 24, 2011 at 5:31 pm aprilinautumn

I would buy a house near my family so I have someplace to come home to, buy a caravan and make a living doing something that I don’t have to be in one place for. Then, I’d just travel all over, staying in different cities for weeks at a time. I’d let people paint on the caravan and it would be totally groovy.

  242. on May 24, 2011 at 5:36 pm heaven

I would be an archaeologist or a linguist if I felt like I could get a job close to home and still support myself!

  243. on May 24, 2011 at 5:47 pm Rachael

Not as cool as you Cathy – but I’d buy a lottery ticket! I thought about it today. But that was as far as I got. In fact I’d buy tickets for all the different lotteries!

  244. on May 24, 2011 at 5:50 pm Cecilia

I would also like to open a quilt store with a big classroom so that our weekly sit n sew group could meet there. Thanks for the giveaway.

What a wonderfully crafty idea! I’d visit your shop/coffee hang-out all the time. I’ve always wanted to do something similar with a bookstore/writing room/coffee shop vibe. Sigh. It’s fun to dream. Thanks!

  249. on May 24, 2011 at 6:43 pm chancy

I think I too would open a craft store, both yarn and fabric. Either that or become a chemist or forensic investigator.

  253. on May 24, 2011 at 7:00 pm Sandy A in St. Louis

Wow what a question! I’d love to go back to school and get either my master’s degree or my CEBS. It has been way too long since I was in a classroom (other than for quilting classes that is!)

Thanks for the chance to win!

  254. on May 24, 2011 at 7:05 pm joy niehaus

does full-time travelling count as something i would do if i couldn’t fail, and by fail i mean run out of money? cos that’s the obvious choice if so :P

  269. on May 24, 2011 at 9:00 pm Amber

  272. on May 24, 2011 at 9:12 pm Jen

Awesome question! I would write a book. Tons of books. Budget, Recipes, Quilt fiction, and a self-help motivational book. Then I would become a FMQer. Ahhh…the life.

    Awesome giveaway! Thanks so much!

  273. on May 24, 2011 at 9:19 pm Lauria

I think if I knew I couldn’t fail, I’d do exactly what I’m doing – being a stage manager! Success and failure are so subjective, it’s hard to know what I wouldn’t do. I know I’m taking a risk working in theatre and I know that it might not last forever, but it brings my happiness!!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

  274. on May 24, 2011 at 9:24 pm Theresa

I would love to travel around the world and enjoy the beauty of different cultures.

    What classy fabrics! Love it!

  276. on May 24, 2011 at 9:34 pm dearmrsreese

That’s hard to say. I really don’t mind failing. I can’t think of anything that I would not try for fear of failing. The only thing I can possibly think of is to buy a lottery ticket! The odds really are so bad that I won’t even waste a dollar on a ticket, but if I was certain that I wouldn’t fail, well that’s a no brainer!

  277. on May 24, 2011 at 9:37 pm Sarah

Wow, that’s a great question. I’d start a non-profit land development company to do low income housing projects. Thanks for the chance to win.

I would open an automata museum and workshop.

  281. on May 24, 2011 at 10:00 pm ashley

I would outsource some of the sewing portion of my little clothing business if I knew it would be worth the risk and that it wouldn’t fail! With baby three coming soon, I find myself struggling with the decision to close up shop and just focus on family or to try to juggle both… I adore those fabrics! We didn’t find out the gender of this little one so that color palette would be so perfect!!

  282. on May 24, 2011 at 10:22 pm PEGGY

I would so hang out at your shop and take the classes! What a great dream! I myself would open a scrapbooking store with a childcare attached on one side and a chocolate shop on the other!

  284. on May 24, 2011 at 10:42 pm susan

I’m new to this whole blogging thing so this giveaway event has been a great opportunity for me to find great sites like this. And that charm pack is lovely. “If I knew it wouldn’t fail” I would love to open a crafting center where crafters could gather, chat, inspire and create. Attached would be a consignment shop for those crafters to sell their goods in a perpetual craft show environment. Many thanks!! And I hope your back feels better.

  285. on May 24, 2011 at 10:45 pm nadila

I would like to be a fabric designer and open a shop with a place that all quilter can hang out and next to the shop, my own pastry shop with the best pastry and coffee.
    mageenadilah(at)gmail(dot)com

  286. on May 24, 2011 at 10:49 pm Serena

Wow, what an interesting question. I think a more appropriate one, for me, would be “What WOULDN’T I do?” I’d sing and paint and dance and climb Mt. Everest (well, maybe not–too cold). OK, I think I know: I’d open a bakery. I love to bake. And a yarn shop, since I love to knit. I can do both since I won’t fail, right? ;) Thank you for the lovely giveaway!

  287. on May 24, 2011 at 10:59 pm Kristie

If I was certain I wouldn’t fail, I’d try to open my own craft class/shop venue. I’d love to craft for a living and to share my love of crafting. kristie_keely(at)yahoo(d0t)com

I say go for it and open your shop! Do not be afraid of failure. When you look back, you won’t regret that you tried it, you might regret that you didn’t!!

As for me, fear of failure doesn’t really keep me from doing something, it’s more lack of time and/or money!

  298. on May 25, 2011 at 7:03 am Taleah

    I’d launch my photography business!

  299. on May 25, 2011 at 8:05 am Liz

Don’t be afarid of failure. Dream big about your shop, but also, go out and do it. I am switching careers from engineering to teaching. Scary, but worth it for my sanity. Good luck!

I would do something to help those in need and make a big impact in their lives–but I don’t even know what that would be. Thanks for the giveaway–it would make a beautiful baby blanket!

I would copy your exact idea, but in the interest of being creative I’ll give you my next best choice- I’d love to have a little farmette. Some chickens, goats, a cow or two… Maybe some sheep for wool. Our own organic vegetable garden and lots of wildflowers. Heaven.

  346. on May 25, 2011 at 3:17 pm Krystal

I would buy that hobby farm in the country and raise organic fruit, veggies and livestock. And quilt.

If I knew I wouldn’t fail, I would open a combo photography studio (for my husband)/quilting studio (for me) so we could both pursue what we really want to do (and get that long-arm quilting machine I want, LOL) Thanks!

  349. on May 25, 2011 at 3:32 pm Melissa @ Love Affair With My Brother

If I knew I wouldn’t fail I would open a women’s club – like the old-timey men’s clubs. Where women could come and relax and do crafting, with a spa attached. Ahhh……

    • on May 25, 2011 at 5:46 pm Cathy A.

That sounds like fun! I would join that club!!

      Thanks, Cathy >

  354. on May 25, 2011 at 5:23 pm Jen H.

I would provide services that work with troubled families to help keep at risk children safely with their parents. Unfortunately the people who need the most help can’t afford to pay for it and there isn’t enough out there to help them. I use quilting as my release from not being able to help.

  355. on May 25, 2011 at 5:36 pm meikjn

I would train to sing professionally at a place that would let me bring the kids. or I would sell the stuff I sew. (on a more than just a hobby scale)

Train as a chaplain, become a hospice nurse, start a band photography business – buy a great sewing machine and make quilts for everyone, including making them for the shelters near me. :D Great question!!

  363. on May 25, 2011 at 6:44 pm Laura P

I would have gone to art school. I didn’t because I thought I wasn’t good enough, but I always loved it.

  364. on May 25, 2011 at 7:10 pm Jada P.

If I couldn’t fail, I’d become a midwife. Instead, I’m becoming a nurse, and maybe someday will be working with moms and babies.

  365. on May 25, 2011 at 7:27 pm Mary on Lake Pulaski

what a great question – yours is the last blog i’m visiting in the giveaway and it is by far the best question for comment i’ve seen. i would, and am striving towards it, to be a children’s book writer…a wacky and fun one like dr. seuss or shel silverstein.

  376. on May 25, 2011 at 9:10 pm Larissa

I’d have a brick & mortar soap shop, with an attached art studio so I could paint!

I would cut my own hair.

  378. on May 25, 2011 at 9:17 pm rachel Trindle

i would take another stab at making a souffle.

Either that, or make a mariner’s compass quilt which requires 32 perfectly matched points and ridiculous 16 degree triangles.
