It has been a rather strange day, and nothing went quite like planned–much like my whole week. I’ve been sick all week. It all started last Saturday night when I had a night of feverish dreams of coding links for my blog giveaway. Yes, that’s what I dreamed about in my fever-influenced dreams. I am finally feeling better now that I’ve got some antibiotics to get rid of my ear infections–yay for antibiotics!!
When I first saw McKenzie from Dena Designs, I was intrigued by the aqua color group because it’s one of my favorite colors–along with orange which are both in a few of the prints. I was afraid it would look like a boring pastel group, but it really isn’t a pastel group at all, and it’s certainly not boring! I hope you like it as much as I do.
I will be giving away a 1/2 yard bundle of each of the fabrics I have for the McKenzie line by Dena Designs for FreeSpirit Fabrics. I have 7 prints, so that will be 3 1/2 yards of fabric!

What fun! My name is Karen and I am a mom of two girls, ages 11 and 17, and I live in Redmond WA. I mostly knit, but also have a fabric obsession and enjoy sewing whenever I can. My sewing projects recently have consisted of costumes as both my girls are into theater. I learned to sew in 7th grade and my grandmother reiforced the skill by purchasing me my first sewing machine for my 13th birthday- it was a Singer Fashion Mate with the plastic cams that popped in to make specialty stitches. I still have that machine, but about 15 years ago I bought my Bernina, a Quilter’s Edition, though it hasn’t seen many quilts…yet!

I am newbie to quilting but have made my two daughters both a blue jean quilt out of my brothers blue jeans and a Halloween quilt. Next on my list is a quilt using Amy Butler fabric – trying a pattern called ‘Turning 21′ (I think). I am also making a simple checkerboard quilt for a baby to donate to Project Linus. They provide homemade blankets to children in need.

i’m 64 years young–some days feel a lot older than younger!! live in central washington state on an acre with hundreds of orchards around us and generous neighbors who share cherries, apricots, apples, pears and anything else they raise. have a wonderful husband who works on a grant through wsu. we have two children, a great daughter in law and son in law and eight fantastic, smart, talented and beautiful grandchildren. i have always been a crafter-made doll clothes for little set of six-inch tall dolls when i was about six. have been a tole painter and a paper crafter. have sewn since mom taught me to sew at 10. last couple years i’ve made dozens of quilts, am just learning to do machine quilting. love the feel of wonderful fabrics, papers and well-sanded wood. i’m a teacher by profession but haven’t taught in 10 years other than to teach crafty things to friends and family.
